This is the story following the extensive search I have undertaken over the last year and a half of my life to find the best burger in the Atlanta area. I have searched near and far for the best burger in the Metro-Atlanta area and have narrowed the field down to less than ten. Gastronomically speaking, these restaurants are titans among mortals in the arena of burger-making. This journey is still "in the making," although I have been to over 50 top-rated restaurants. Their are a few more places that I have overlooked, but I am doing my best to include these in upcoming blogs. Just remember that the difference between an average hamburger joint and a true gourmet burger spot can be infinitely small, but the true aficionado will be able to tell the difference very quickly. Truly, we are all looking for the best place to eat a fantastic hamburger with minimal distractions.Without further adieu, here are my top picks for the best burger in Atlanta.

Flip Burger Boutique is insanely good. I have tried the rest but this is the best ....so far. They manage to make extremely good burgers in an upscale setting (almost too upscale.) Their milkshakes almost overshadow their over-the-top food. My favorite milkshake is the Krispy-kreme milkshake, but they also have a foie gras milkshake that is phenomenal. The hamburgers can become a little pricey if you move to the high end of the scale, but trust me that the burger is worth the price....
I guess you could say this whole thing started out with a trip to Grindhouse Killer Burgers. I was taking my daughter to the Atlanta Zoo one day and passed by this little, upbeat, busy burger restaurant. The sheer number of people congregating at this establishment forced me to check it out. I was amazed by the food to say the least, and was convinced that I had just found the best and most unique hamburger in the universe. I contemplated this for a few days and decided that I must undertake a quest to find the best burger in the land......
btw Grindhouse was really good....

1. Flip Burger Boutique: This is hands down the best of the best. The burger was divine...the milkshake unmistakebly unique. I had a krispy-kreme donut milkshake that completely overshadowed the delicacies of this fine establishment. With that said, this is the finest hamburger I have ever had, and I did not order the "nicest" on the menu...

2. Grindhouse Killer Burgers: Exceptional burger to say the least. The burger choices were intense, and I wish I could have tried more variations. The atmosphere was definitely upbeat and fun. This was a no-brainer for second place in ATL.

3. Ann's Snack Shack: I drove by this  at least three times before I worked up the courage to actually go inside. The location was a bit of a deterrent, but after the initial shock of the outward appearance of the place this is one of the best patties i have ever had. The hours of operation are limited due to the area, and the availability as well. If you have time during the day and are willing to put up with a little bit of inconvenience due to seating, you will be in for a treat!!...(p.s. I was kicked out due to lack of space the first time i went to the shack.)

4. The Vortex: This counter culture icon has been evoking gastronomical responses for over 20 years. When I began frequenting Little five Points in the mid 90's this pub was already well established. Their beer sample trays and all-smoking policy weigh heavily on the clientele of this trendy burgerpub.

5. The Varsity: This is the quintessential burger joint in ATL. If you want a slice of the southern hamburger beginnings, you should start here. They specialize in hot dogs and burgers the way no other restaurant can...in high volume. This is Atlanta.

6. The Counter: This place is over-running with options. I have never seen so many different ways to make a hamburger... Really it's a cornucopia of variations to choose from in this modern day world of hamburger mayhem. The burger was exsquisite but i was overwhelmed a little by the magnitude of choices.

7. Five Guys: They have won multiple awards for their tasty delicacies, and I would have to agree that this restaurant chain is doing things right when it comes to hamburgers. Its always fresh made and hot off the grill, which makes it that much better. It's not extraordinary like some of the others on the list, but it makes me happy.
